Why I Want to #ReopenWisconsin: From A College Grad

Why I Want to #ReopenWisconsin: From A College Grad

Enough is enough, we need to get back to work. As we all know, Wisconsin has extended its stay-at-home order until May 26th, while other midwest states are already opening up. Now, I can say for myself (and I’m sure as many others) that we need to open back up.

I understand that we are in a pandemic, but I will disclose to you right away that this article is my personal opinion, and I think this coronavirus has been blown way out of proportion. I understand social distancing and taking extra precautions in the work place, but having things completely shut down is just too much.

The whole country cannot be shut down forever, we have to open up at some point. The fear that has been created out of this pandemic is something I never could fathom, at least in my lifetime and I’m only 22 years old! We as a country are better than this, we as humanity are better than this. Though I am glad that this is bringing up more public safety precautions, this is the time where things should be opening back up.

I personally have been suffering from this pandemic in ways I would have never thought of just a few short months ago. With my college graduation just coming up in a week, the job market was great, and I had great faith that I would find employment quickly. Now, not only myself and many others, are stuck in a crippling job market, once again being forced to move back home.

Not only is there no jobs, but myself, and many others my age do not qualify for the stimulus check (because most college students file as dependents from their parents) and do not qualify for unemployment because we are full time students. So, we are left in the dark with no money, no jobs, and not even a proper graduation ceremony to send us off into the big “adult” world. Heck, I even completely lost a job, and was furloughed from two others. I’ve tried getting hired at essential places of work, and their seasonal staff is “full” and at Amazon, I received a job offer, and then lost the job within 24 hours.

This whole thing is a cluster, and politics aside, things need to be opening back up again. I’m all for extra cleaning practices and social distancing, like I said, but we cannot take a two month economy shut down any longer. I want my job back, I want my life back, and I’m sure you do too.

xoxo, triple tea
