Are we as doomed as the media says we are? (Well, after the Packer game this feeling may be intensified)

Every time you watch the news and refresh your social feed a sense of doom emulates from the narratives. From war and violence, political drama, culture wars…you name it. But why? For a newsworthy story? For clicks, likes, and shares? The media impacts our mental health far more than we like to admit. When I stopped watching the news regularly I noticed my mentality turn away from intimidation, and towards optimism.

But what happened to being excited about the future? Recently I came across a video online of Elon Musk (think what you want, but hear him out on this) that “We should be excited about the future!” And we really should be. The truth is that bad things will always happen-it’s inevitable. But how we persevere, cope, and conquer the struggles in the world is what keeps the human spirit alive.

Think back to decades, centuries, and millennia ago. How did those people make it? They kept going and did not let fear of failure or loss sway them. Without the determination, innovation, and ancestors fighting for a better tomorrow, our civilization would not be where it is today.

As for today, we almost need to be excited for tomorrow. Some of the greatest inventions, concepts, and breakthroughs have yet to be accomplished. The media does a good job of influencing our emotions. But with mindfulness, we must remind ourselves that we can only control what we can. For the things we cannot control, we pray.

Dark times are bound to happen. Manage what you can control and don’t let the darkness pull you further from the light. Good times are still happening, even in today’s world (which can be hard to believe. And maybe take a break from watching the news.
