I’m Not Going To Valentine’s Day This Year

It’s that time of year again, where everyone seems to turn into some sort of sad boy/girl and complaining about how they are “forever alone”. I promise you this article won’t ~entirely~ have that vibe.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve really had a Valentine. My mom and dad always send me a card with five dollars or something to get myself a coffee (which is clutch) and obviously when we were all in grade school, giving out cards to our classmates.

Back in fourth grade I made my crush a HUGE valentine accompanied with candy in hopes that he will notice that I liked him. I later asked him out on the playground and he screamed and ran away. Long story short, the feeling wasn’t mutual.

Through high school and college those trials definitely diminished, but when I had my first college boyfriend, I thought I’d go all out. Somehow I thought it was a GREAT idea to make him a Spongebob Spuarepants themed card (yes I made it from scratch) and pour my heart out into it, along with a case of Natural Light to really ~enhance~ how much I liked him. With that being said and done, he got me nothing in return, and dumped me over a text about a week later and was cheating on me the whole time we were together. Classy right? Totally!

Looking back on it all, and just my loser, cheesy and failed attempts at anything dating, I have realized that I really don’t give a crap anymore on what Valentine’s Day means to me. Why spend one day celebrating your partner when you can celebrate them every day? And for y’all that are single (including myself) let’s treat ourselves. You are awesome, have yourself a glass of wine and cheers yourself.

I’ve gone through twenty-two Valentine’s Days and I have yet to have a real, genuine valentine. But since it’s been this long, I can probably do twenty-two more years. In all honesty, I’m over it. Toast yourself, and get excited for all the half-off candy that will be coming our way February 15th!

xoxo, Triple Tea
